Aujourd’hui, j’ai visité Les Machines de l’île de Nantes. C’est un projet artistique, totalement inédit. Voici un extrait du site-internet :
Today, I visited The Machines of the Isle of Nantes. It’s a completely original and unprecedented art project. Here is an extract from the website :
Né de l’imagination de François Delarozière et Pierre Orefice, il se situe à la croisée des « mondes inventés » de Jules Verne, de l’univers mécanique de Léonard de Vinci et de l’histoire industrielle de Nantes, sur le site exceptionnel des anciens chantiers navals.
From the imagination of François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice, the project places itself at the crossroad of the « invented world » of Jules Verne, the mechanic genius of Leonardo Da Vinci et the industrial history of Nantes itself, the site of the project itself is rich with history of the old naval works.
Il y avait une animation sur des animaux mécaniques. Tout d’abord, ils nous ont présenté une Fourmi Géante. La construction avait des places pour que des enfants puissent la controller ensemble, deux enfants pour les deux jambes devants, et un enfant à la tête pour la conduire.
There was a guided tour for the mechanical animals. Firstly, they showed us the Giant Ant. The machine was made to seat several people, who were able to control it together – two children at the front controlling the legs, and one at the head to drive.
Ensuite, ils nous ont présenté le seul avion qui peut voler dans une position fixe, ou stationnée. C’était une sorte de soufflerie pour tester les machines volantes. La présentatrice a invité une de leurs stagiaires à monter l’avion. Il y avait beaucoup de vent, de brouillard, même de neige. La présentatrice a secoué une feuille d’aluminium pour faire du bruit ressemblant le tonnerre.
Next, they showed us the only plane in existance that can fly in a stationary position. It was inside a sort of wind tunnel for testing flying machines. The présenter invited one of their trainees to board the plan. There was a lot of wind, fog and even snow. The présenter shook an aluminium sheet to give the impression of thunder.
Finalement, elle nous a présenté la grande idée du centre. Ils veulent créer une sorte de monde fait entièrement en métal, surtout en acier. Ils l’ont appelé « L’arbre aux hérons ».
Finally, she showed us the biggest idea that the centre plans to realise. They want to create a kind of world, made entirely of metal, mostly steel. They call it « The Heron Tree ».
Imaginez pour un instant, un grand arbre, fait totalement en acier avec la teinte de rouille. Au plus haut, deux grands hérons s’élèvent au-dessus de l’arbre, chacun ayant la capacité d’accueillir huit personnes dans quelques grands paniers au-dessous chaque héron.
Imagine for a moment, a large tree, made only of steel with a touch of rust. At the very top, two large herons rise above the tree, each carrying baskets to accomodate eight persons.
Pour entrenir l’arbre en bon état, il y a des chaises qui peuvent monter sur le tronc de l’arbre.
To maintain the enormous construction, there are chairs that act like elevators, moving up and down the tree trunk.
À l’extérieur, un grand animal mécanique a déjà été realisé, il marche d’un pas lourd avec des passagers sur son dos. Oui ! C’est l’éléphant ! En fait, il me fait penser à un éléphant de guerre, il était tellement grand, gros et terrifiant !
Oustide, a large mechanical animal had already been realised, it stomps around with people on its back. Yes, its the elephant! It actually reminds me of a war elephant, very tall, very wide and terrifying!
